Tetherball
At Superplastic I was hired as an animator, but I expressed an interest in storyboarding. I was given the opportunity to board a few skits. One advantage of starting from animation and going to storyboarding is that I already understood the characters and personalities so well.
In this skit, the prompt was to have Guggimon and Dayzee play tetherball with Janky’s head. Dayzee expends a lot of energy to win, and Guggi barely exerts himself but manages to find the perfect moment to turn the game in his favor. The animation should play like a loop.
I found that working out the business was challenging and awesome because I had a short time to learn the rules of tetherball and sell the idea in as few images as possible.

It was really cool to see something I storyboarded get animated to completion by somebody else…normally my experience is the other way around.
